SUBJECT: GSS 93: LEAS Counter sniper Rifles/Varmint Rifles
Welcome to the NRA seminar on Counter Sniper Rifles/Varmint Rifles!
I'm writing to welcome you to our NRA Gunsmithing School here at Lassen
College and to provide you with some advanced information so that you
will be prepared for the five-day course.
This class will cover the ultra-accurate bolt-action rifle in detail.
Please bring representative test-fire groups for each rifle that you
bring. Please be sure and bring the same lot of ammunition for the
test-fire group to shoot after accurizing your rifle. In the classroom
we will discuss the procedures for accurizing bolt-action rifles.
You will then accomplish this task on at least one rifle that you bring
with you. We will then go to the range later on in the week and shoot
During the week we will discuss triggers and safeties, headspace (what it
is and how it is measured), firing pin fit, scope mounting and collimating.
If we manage to cover all these in detail and you have a working knowledge
of them; we will have accomplished our goal.
You will be provided with a bench to work at; however, you must bring your
own basic hand tools (see recommended tool list enclosed). There are
firearms lockers available for you to secure your firearms so you will
need to bring an extra padlock or two.
Brownell’s is the definitive source for gunsmithing tools when you have
trouble finding what you need in the local hardware store. They are on
the web or may be reached by phone at (800) 741-0015.
Live ammo is not permitted in the classrooms or the lab.
We are looking forward to a productive and enjoyable week.
