Welcome to the NRA seminar on tuning Single Action Revolvers for Cowboy Shooting!
You will be provided with a bench to work at; however, you must bring
your own basic hand tools (see recommended tool list enclosed). We
also provide a locker for your firearms bring a padlock.
This class will deal with single action revolvers commonly seen in use
in Cowboy Action Shooting. The Colt, Colt copies and Ruger. You will
be spending 50 hours working on these pistols so I would suggest that
you bring a quality pistol to invest this time in. We will have TIG
welding capabilities for repair of parts but if you have spare parts for
your revolvers please bring them. I would suggest that you not bring
basket cases since you may not have time to complete them and may
The shop has all of the specialized tools you'll need as well as a Foredom
tool. If you have a Foredom or Dremel tool, bring it along, as having one
at your bench will be a real time saver. Bring your own bits.
Brownell's is the definitive source for gunsmithing tools when you have
trouble finding what you need in the local hardware store. They are on

Safety glasses with side-shields are mandatory!
Live ammo is not permitted in the classroom or the lab.
Bring dummy rounds if you wish to simulate cycling ammo through an action.
Bring live ammo for function firing, but keep it in your car till needed.

Needle files- assorted shapes
Honing stones- assorted shapes and sizes
Weighted rubber or rawhide mallet
6” Steel rule
Gun cleaning kit for your specific firearms with solvent
Degreaser (denatured alcohol or mineral spirits)
44/40 Cold blue
Clamp on bench light and extra light bulbs
Sand paper- 150, 220, 320, and 400 grit
Safety glasses and welding goggles or dark sunglasses
1” Quality paint brush
Padlock for gun locker
Machine shop tools for part fabrication if you have machine shop skills (lathe and mill)
